Junior cries on pages 216 and 217 because he is realizing that although he thought the world was against him, it's really not. When Junior starts to cry he is remembering all the family he has lost and mourning them. Junior’s realization changed him because he now knows only you can change your outlook on life, no one else. As Junior stands in the graveyard mourning his dead relatives he realizes “And that’s when I knew everything was going to be okay.” Junior is a very strong individual who overcomes many obstacles. Junior cries because his realization of the world is a big adjustment that he filled with tears.
Great job Ella, I completely agree! This is definitely a moment of realization for Junior because his outlook on life has been sad and hopeless, and thinking that will make his life that way. After crying for his sister and others who have died, Junior notices that, "[He] was gong to have a better life out in the white world," (Alexie 217). This quote shows that although Junior's family has had terrible luck with poverty and death, Junior can still change his own life, and others. He has had an amazing opportunity to go to Reardan and it has given him confidence to believe in himself and trust others. Now Junior can move on in his life with a positive outlook.

However I think another very important reason that Junior is sad, emotional and crying is because he is sad that everyone on the rez is always dying and getting drunk. Also because he realizes that no one is making any effort to get out of their bad situation. They just accept it and live their pretty pitiful lives. " I cried because so many of my fellow tribal members were slowly killing themselves and I wanted them to live. I wanted them to get strong and get the hell off the rez (216)."
